The establishment of the TAiwan Myocardial Infarction Society (TAMIS) was prompted by the persistent prevalence of heart disease as one of the leading causes of death in Taiwan, with "myocardial infarction" (heart attack) holding a particularly high mortality rate. The incidence of myocardial infarction has been steadily increasing, with a concerning trend of affecting individuals at a younger age. Recognizing the critical nature of this health challenge, Dr. Wei-Chun Huang invited 53 experts from various regions of Taiwan to join forces. These experts encompassed diverse fields, including public health, fire services, cardiology, emergency medicine, smoking cessation, nursing, cardiac surgery, rehabilitation, radiology, heart transplantation, catheterization techniques, palliative care, critical care, and interventional therapy.
On June 17, 2020, they submitted an application to the Ministry of the Interior to establish a nationwide social organization, resulting in the formation of the TAiwan Myocardial Infarction Society (TAMIS).
In March 28, 2021, TAMIS held its inaugural Annual Meeting and International Academic Symposium, which saw participation from over 200 national and international experts. The event was graced by the presence of government representatives, hospital delegates, and dignitaries from relevant medical associations, emphasizing the collaboration between academia and the healthcare sector. The symposium featured a rich program, with speeches and international exchanges from notable figures, including Vice Executive Director Liao Xunxiang of the Health and Welfare Promotion Administration, Prof. Paul Ong, the Asian Chair of the International Myocardial Infarction Organization, Prof. Myung Ho Jeong, Co-Chair of the Korean National Registry for Myocardial Infarction, Prof. Alan Fong, Chair of the National Registry of Coronary Heart Disease in Malaysia, Prof. Yongcheol Kim from Korea, and other distinguished experts from Taiwan.
At the TAMIS 2022 2nd Annual Meeting and International Academic Symposium, the theme was "Starting from the Heart, Immediate Rescue: Integrated Care for Quality Myocardial Infarction." Renowned international experts, such as Wang Baqun, the Executive Director of the Taiwan Healthcare Quality Promotion Association, Prof. Jan Piek from Stent Save a Life, the Netherlands, Prof. Lee Kang Yin from Hong Kong, Prof. Soon Jun Hong from Korea, and Chairman Alan Fong from the National Registry of Coronary Heart Disease in Malaysia, were invited as keynote speakers. The conference also included paper and case competitions, as well as several joint symposiums with universities, facilitating academic exchange with experts and scholars from Taiwan and abroad.
The upcoming TAMIS 2023 3rd Annual Meeting and International Academic Symposium will revolve around the theme "Comprehensive Perspective, Deep into the Heart: A Comprehensive Exploration of Acute Myocardial Infarction." Notably, the conference will include paper and case competitions, the Myocardial Infarction Knowledge Challenge, Pre-hospital Myocardial Infarction Emergency Operations, Medication Knowledge Challenge, as well as a smoking cessation poster competition. These activities aim to raise awareness of myocardial infarction and enhance the quality of related care.
Furthermore, the International Myocardial Infarction Academic Symposium and the 4th Annual Meeting of the TAiwan Myocardial Infarction Society in 2024, scheduled for February 24-25, will bear the theme "Exploring the Heart, Confronting Myocardial Infarction." This year, the society is joining hands with the Asia Primary Angioplasty Congress (APAC) to host the event, with the promise of hosting many more internationally acclaimed speakers and fostering continued academic lectures and discussions. The event will be enriched by activities such as paper and case competitions, the Myocardial Infarction Knowledge Challenge, Pre-hospital Myocardial Infarction Emergency Operations, Medication Knowledge Challenge, and other stimulating content. We extend a warm invitation to all to participate in this endeavor, as we work together to contribute to the prevention and treatment of myocardial infarction.
